2011/12 Season Review
Even though there were only 2 league games in May, the Premier League felt it is necessary to announce the Awards for May.
I think I got it because we faced Liverpool and Newcastle United which we won.
Magaye Gueye was fantastic against both Liverpool and Newcastle. I expect great things from him next season has he goes from back up to first choice.
Tim Howard is the only to play all 38 games and only conceded 23 goals with 20 clean sheets proving he is a top class keeper behind a solid defence.
The defence contributed 14 goals and 13 assists to the team effort. Phil Jagielka is our joint 3rd top goal scorer and Distin is joint 4th. Leighton Baines and Jagielka were fantastic all season providing excellent protection at the back and a goal threat at the other end of the pitch. Baines was a threat down the left all season and from set pieces.
Maroune Fellaini and Jack Rodwell provided excellent protection to the back four and setting up the attacks has they formed a fantastic partnership in midfield. Leon Osman with 11 assists and Tim Cahill with 14 assists provided great opportunities for their teammates to score.
Nikica Jelavic played 37 games scoring 26 goals and providing 8assists had a brilliant debut season. Victor Anichebe and Apostolos Vellios provided excellent support towards the end of the season.
I am slightly disappointed with Drenthe, Pienaar and Stracqualursi has they had reputations of being good players but did not make the impact I was expecting from them. James McFadden started the season in fine form but he tailed off over Christmas and afterwards which is the reason he was not offered a new contract.
It was in the Cup games which provided evidence that Barkley, Anichebe and Vellios should be in the Senior Squad. Shane Duffy showed he could be a decent central defender and gave players like David Weir, Hibbert etc. some game time.
I could not ask for more from the Board, players, staff and the fans. I think there would have been riots if the new Board got rid of me in April has we were having the best League season in a long time.
The Board are delighted with the season despite our exit in the 4th Round of the Carling Cup. Premier League: A; FA Cup: B-; Carling Cup: D – Could do much better.
From the start of the Season in July 2011 to April 2012 we made a loss in every month this was due to repaying various loans, transfer clauses and a fairly high wage bill. In April 2012 the Board led by new owner Simon Blitz injected some cash which put us into the black.
Next season will see an increase in TV money, gate receipts, merchandising sales, prize money and match day income thanks to having Champions League games for the first half of the season with the possibility of Europa League or Champions League in the second half of the season. It would great to get a big club or 2 in our group. I am planning on selling Junior, Joao Silva, HIbbert and Yobo will see a short term increase in our finances.
The wage bill be reduced by not having Drenthe (£55k), Pienaar (£55k), Mucha (£20k), Mahnemann (£13k), Distin (£45k), Hibbert (£25k) and McFadden (£18k) on the club’s pay roll next season. The total saved is £231k per week, just over £1m per month and just over £12m per season this is before any new players come in.
Non-footballing costs, ground maintenance and loans were biggest expenses for the season after player wages. There is a reason for ground maintenance increasing which will be revealed later in the post.
It must have been a hard decision after the season we had so Leighton Baines deserves it but it could easily been Jelavic, Jagielka, Cahill and Howard.
THERE IS CLEAR “BIG CLUB” BIAS WHEN AWARDING THE PLAYER OF THE YEAR, YOUNG PLAYER OF THE YEAR AND PICKING THE TEAM OF THE YEAR. THE PFA AND PWA ARE CLEARLY BIASED TOWARDS MANCHESTER CITY, MANCHESTER UNITED, CHELSEA AND ARSENAL. THE PFA AND PWA AWARDS A ****ING JOKE HAS IT DOES NOT REPRESENT THE TRUE PICTURE OF THE SEASON; Jelavic, Cahill, Baines had better seasons than Rooney, Arteta and Mata for the PFA POTY
So next season it would be fantastic to win every trophy possible has it would stick 2 fingers to the “big clubs”, PFA and PWA.
At least Suart Pearce has common sense when he selected Rodwell, Baines and Jagielka but since they play for Everton they would be on the bench for every game.
Rodwell gets his first cap and I hope it is first of many has he could form a fearsome partnership with Wilshere in years to come.
The FA offered the job and I accepted. We have Brazil, Egypt and Iran in our group. This post is only for the Olympics and luckily enough the games are after preseason friendlies for Everton. The squad will be revealed in the next post.
I have added 3 more players to the sqaud.
Jamaal is natural born leader and could be a good defender providing excellent cover Duffy and Perybernes. The great thing is he has time to improve before he breaks into the Senior Squad.
He is highly rated by our scouts and have given him 4 stars for his potential. He could be a very good player in a few years and play to a similar level to Maroune Fellaini and the media labelled him to be the next Scott Parker and is the same type of player to Osman.
I will be keeping the budget when I select the season expectations when the 2012/13 season starts.
So with some money to spend at last. I have been looking for a keeper to come in since Mucha agreed to move to Real Madrid in March/April.
He is very highly rated with 4 star potential and can match Tim Howard’s playing level. He will be No1. in 2014 when Tim Howard’s contract is up for renewal. I agree the media labelling him the next Oliver Kahn. Manchester City were stupid to release him back in 2011.
I stated earlier the ground maintenance had increased this was due to the Board has put £8m from the club’s finances to fund the expansion of the ground from 40,157 to 46407 and should be completed in October. The extra capacity will see an increase in the clubs finances.
David Weir will be part of the club’s coaching staff full time. He has ended his playing career on a very high note, 4 straight League titles; Rangers (2009, 2010, 2011) and Everton (2012). He has been a great servant to every club he has played for. Him and Hendry are the standard bearers for Scottish Central Defenders and it is up to the young Scottish players to match their standards.
Phil Neville will be concentrating on the club for the coming season and his contract is for renewal in 2013 but I might release him at the end of the season to allow younger players to come through.
So far I am liking the work of the Simon Blitz and the new Board have done and they have increased the staff limits.
The next post will be on our preseason, new staff, Team GB and anything else that comes long in the crazy world of FM.
Until next time………

Welcome reader to the start of the 2016/17 Season.
This post covers the first couple of months of the new season. We suffered a couple injuries to key players. The aim for this season is to retain the League Title, win the FA Cup and reach the Semi Finals of the Champions League.
13.8.16 Premier League Match Day 1
A very scrappy cagey game with limited opportunities to score goals or create the chances. Verratti is added to a list of absent players that either injured or at the Olympics in Rio.
20.8.16 Premier League Match Day 2
Pagonis can easily step into the line up without any hassle and I hope he can continue to develop into the player I can think he can become. Sanogo returned from the Olympics with France has we record our first win of the 2016/17 season. This could be a long hard season has some players played in various tournaments over the summer which could led to burnout of some players in the squad.
25.8.16 Champions League Group Stage
Groups A,C and F are the trickiest groups this season. It is great to a couple of minnow clubs in the group stage and hope they can do well. I think we will be ok in our group and we are aiming for the Semi Finals depending on the draws.
27.8.16. League Cup 3rd Round Draw and Premier League Match Day 3
Exter could cause an upset has they host Manchester United and normally Manchester United field an understrength 11 for these games.
We are now getting into the grove with Figueroa continuing to be a threat at set pieces and Barkley continuing to cause the oppoisition problems on the right.

After a busy June it was good to get back to Goodison Park to prepare for the 2016/17 Season. I have new players to blend into the squad and players leaving as well as new staff.
The Board announced that their expectation for the season is to win the League. I have the numbers to cope with a potential fixture congestion (which Vitaliy knows all to well with his current Nottingham Forest save) however the Board has made up to £140m available for transfers but £36m has been transferred to the Wages which means I have £104m to spent on new players if I need to with around £800k a week for their wages.
9.6.16 Paolo Annoni replaces John Murtough who has joined Chelsea.
5.7.16 Alexandr Susin
I decided to accept the buyout has Susin only has 2 years left on his current contract with At. Madrid and there is no certainty that Susin will be At. Madrid after the 2018/19 Season so if he leaves the club the clause becomes void.
6.7.16 Nebojsa Jelenkovic joins has I have been given an extra coaching allocation.
Leondro Romagnoli replaces Ludovic Magnin who joins FC Bayern’s youth team setup.
20.7.16 David Friio joins our scouting network from Manchester United for £45k in compensation.
21.7.16 Marco Ianni also joins our scouting network.
Peter Clark joins from Arsenal for £45k in compensation.
26.7.16 Robbie Cotton is a disgrace to the club and squad for not being at training where as the rest of the squad are training hard to be ready for the season and some have not played that many games.
£75k is a bargain considering it would cost the club £400k if we had released. Cotton is a [...]

Some of the players are on holiday while some are playing for their countries either for qualification for the 2018 World Cup or at Euro 2016. There is the Olympics for those made the qualification for it and are under 23.
4.6.16 I accepted a friendly game against Slovenia has I was this has a perfect opportunity to to try new players and tactics.
I have picked a squad that is a mixture of experienced and inexperienced players. Instead I went with a strong and experienced line up in a formation with the usual attacking instructions.
It seemed that the new formation worked has we hammered them with an embarrassing own goal from Handanovic. This was good has it shows that the players could play in this formation.
10.6.16 Panama in 2018 World Cup Qualification
I selected the less experience players has there was a lot traveling between this game and the previous one. There were some that played against Slovenia but there are new faces in attack and defence.
Another game we dominated against a weaker team. We just need to convert our chances more and we do have the players in the attack to do it. There is a great following for the Mexican team despite that most players are based outside the Mexican Leagues. Erick Torres was simply fantastic and deserved the hat-trick.
This is my main team and line up.
This was trickery than I was expecting has I underestimated the Jamaican side. This was a lucky win for us has we should easily qualify for the next phase from the group we are in.
Euro 2016 in France which has some changes to it with an extra 4 teams [...]

This is a review of our season and also the final tables for the playable leagues.
This season saw some fantastic displays from the players and some disappointing results.
Shane Duffy was a big influence at set pieces in the opponent’s area has he scored 6 goals and had 3 assists. Duffy and Figueroa were fantastic has a partnership at the heart of our defence which led to our 5th title in a row. It was Luke Garbutt that provided some surprisingly good display when he played at the end of the season when Gueye was injured and Garbutt was playing in every position down the left. I hope he or his agent do not ask for too much money when his contract is being negotiated has he has 1 season left on the current contract. Ross Barkley was a constant threat down the right wing which resulted in goals scored or created. He has the potential and the ability to be an Everton Legend. Simon Hirst had a injury hit season also when he was fit to play was 3rd or 4th choice which will affect his development but I hope next season he will get more game time by forming a good back up partnership with Morton and Norris. The Fan’s Player of the Year 2016 Yaya Sanogo was just sensational and has really improve over the last couple of seasons after Jelavic was sold. He has to reproduce this form in Europe to give us the chance to compete for the Trophy and to challenge for the title.
I use the Cups, depending on the opposition, to give game time to the rest [...]

I was hoping to have completed the 2015-16 Season over the Easter Weekend and post it by last weekend but it took longer to play to than expected and I plan to most on a fortnightly basis with special posts about my time with Mexico in between the main posts on my Everton career.
The 2016 Winter Transfer Window is now shut and the clubs have to complete the season with what they have. We face a potential fixture congestion depending on progression in the FA Cup and Champions League from us and other Premier League teams. So far this season we have won the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup but the main prizes are the Premier League and Champions League Titles.
19.2.16 Han Ping, Free Transfer, Central Midfielder/Left Midfield, 4 Star Potential
I have a scout that is looking at Asia for potential future stars and he rated Han Ping every highly. He is a box to box midfielder but his low tackling, decision, concentration, positioning and creativity are a concern which hopefully with a few years of training and playing will see them increase to acceptable levels. He can be a quality player for us and China which would be mean major shirt sales in China and support for us in the future.
21.2.16 Huddersfield Town in the 5th Round of the FA Cup
I fielded my 2nd XI at the Galpharm Stadium. It was a close and all the action in was in the first half. It is good to see young striker Billy Morton getting on the score sheet twice. My board would not have been if we had lost this game.

Sometimes I really hate FM and the majority of the time I love FM. This is when I love FM. This post covers December, January and the Winter Transfer Window. Will Manchester City and Manchester United have another quiet transfer window?
2.12.15 Our final Champions League Group game. I decided to field my 2nd XI since we have already qualified from the Group.
Some the players in this line showed that they close to having an impact on my regular starting XI. It is great to see this team dominate a good team from Switzerland.
9.12.15 Champions League Groups. How tight was Group F?
No surprise team in the draw for the First Knockout Round.
18.12.15 Champions League Frist Knockout Round Draw
This could be our last game in this season’s Champions League. My pick for the game of the round is Ajax v Porto.
20.12.15 FIFA Club World Cup
A 5 day trip to Morocco is better than a 5 day trip to Japan. It was fairly easy in the end has I have my second team a run out in the Semi Final against a very good African team. This the 2nd time in 3 years that I have won the FIFA Club World Cup. How will this affect the team in the 2nd half the season has we contest 3 more Trophies.
FIFA Club World Cup Golden Ball
Jack Rodwell best player after 1 game but he did score twice in the Final. The potential in this squad is massive and will only get better over the seasons.
30.12.15 Martin Ganchev, Central Defender, Toulouse, Free, 4.5 Star Potential
Pre-Contract Agreement which is my favourite type of transfer for overseas players has there is no compensation to pay [...]

The summer transfer window is now closed. There were some surprise home and abroad.
West Bromwich Albion
West Ham Utd
Arsenal’s biggest transfer was ex Liverpool central defender Sebstian Coates from Sampdoria £10.5m.
Aston Villa cranked up their spending this summer with the signings of Ryad Boudebouz from Chelsea for £7m, Lucas Zen from Betis for £9.25m and Maciej Sadlok from Terek for £6m.
Blackpool had another big spending summer with Paul Pogba from Rennes for £6m being their biggest transfer and Vadis Odjidjo from Totthenham Hotspur for £4.1m adding more steel to their midfield.
Bolton Wonderers spread their money over serveral players inlcuding Celso Borges from Bologna for £3.2m, Eren Derdiyak from Leverkusen for £2.1m and Vagif Cavadov from FC Kobenhavn for £3.2m.
Burnley decided against spending big instead offloaded some of their players including Brian Easton to West Ham United for £4.4m and Chuks Aneke to Swansea from £3.3m.
Chelsea were the biggest spenders in the Premier League with the signings of Henrik Mkhitaryan from Juventus for £8.5m, Yaroslav Rakitskyi from Shakhter for £10.75m, Sime Vrsaljko from Espanyol for £16.75m, Artjoms Rudnevs from Sunderland for £7.75m, Chris Wood from Norwich for £7.5m. At the same offloaded just under half of the amount they spent with Asamoah Gyan going to FC Dallas for £3m, Jelle Vossen to Portland for £6.75m and Gael Kakuta to Nice for £3.8m.
I have offload Mathieu Peybernes to AC Milan for £4.7m, Nico Perrey to Union Berlin for £800k, Abdoul Karim Sylla to WBA for £2.6m, Phil Jameson to Newcastle for £1.2m after his agent wanted to keep the annual 10% increase in wage clause in his client’s contract [...]

Our preseason was quite successful on and off the field with a lucrative 3 game tour of Brazil. Also International management came calling.
These games allowed to assess all my players and to familiarise the team to South American style of football for the FIFA Club World in December. This team has got a lot goals in it and it is down to me get the tactics right to allow the team to score the goals that they have in them.
15.8.15 Opening game of the 206/16 Premier League Season.
I have decided to have Ruben Figueroa and Shane Duffy has my first choice centre back pairing. This is Alexandr Susin’s last game for the club and more will be explained in the next post.
22.8.15 West Ham are hard team to play against and last time they won 1-0.
We were lucky to get 3points after their late goal. This game showed that my midfield is still a goal scoring machine.
27.8.15 Champions League Group Stage
I have been given the easiest group this year and Group E is too close to call. This year the Champions League looks like it good be a good one. My aim is get to the Semi Finals again and hopefully avoid teams like Man Utd, Barcelona, Inter, FC Bayern, Real Madrid.
28.8.15 UEFA Super Cup
I could not believe how woeful AC Milan were and it turn into a walkover. Milan fielded a very strong line up with a very strong bench but they were not in the game which was disappointing has it could have been a good game to watch.
29.8.15 Carling Cup 3rd Round Draw
Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal in 3 weeks could see us playing catch up however [...]

Now the 2014/15 Season is over and we ended the season completing the Treble. It is time to take stock of the season and where, if any, improvements can be made.
Marco Verratti and Yaya Sanogo were my star players in the Premier League. Shane Duffy was very impressive throughout the season has he cemented his place in the starting line-up. Jake Bidwell is only 21 and will get better but is some away off being just as good as Baines however I have faith that he will get there.
The Cups was the place for backup, reserve and youth team players to impress me and earn the right to be the in Senior squad or force their into the starting line up. Simon Hirst was of those that took the opportunity and scored 3 goals in 4 games. Craig Thomson was impressive when played in the right midfield role but his demands for first team football throughout the season was getting very irritating and left with no choice but to transfer list him. On the bright side Lascelles and Figueroa formed a good partnership which could will be good in near the future.
It was in the midfield where my team was most impressive with Marco Verratti was the pick of them with 3 goals, 7 assists and average rating of 7.69 over the 10 games he played in.
The 4-2-3-1 formation suited Nikcia Jelavic but since his transfer to FC Bayern in the summer and Sanogo being the main striker the 4-2-3-1 did not suit Sanogo in the preseason friendlies so I switched to the 4-1-2-2-1 formation which suited him also allowed Fellaini and Rodwell to be more involved in [...]

March to May is the busiest period for us has we contest for 3 Trophies has the season comes to a close. Will this squad cope with a heavy schedule and will the back up players step up to when selected?
1.3.15 Feb Manager of the Month
Feb Player of the Month
Feb Young Player of the Month
Chelsea v Man Utd Semi Final has to be the Match of the Cup. The Board are not too fuss about us not winning this competition but is a good Cup to win has it gives you Europa League football which is better than missing out via the League.
11.3.15 Champions League First Knockout Round
We are the only English representatives left in the Champions League after we got a well earned draw in Rome. FC Bayern v Barcelona lived up to its billing as the Tie of the Round.
15.3.15 FA Cup Quarter Final
We are now the favourites to win the FA Cup this season after Liverpool crashed out to a shock result at Wolves.
FA Cup Semi Final
A West Midlands derby steals the draw. This could get interesting.
28.3.15 Champions League Quarter Final
The home games is going to be important has going to Amsterdam Arena will be tough to get the result we need.
There are no easy games in the Champions League.
1.4.15 March Young Player of the Month
15.4.15 Champions League Quarter Final
Thank goodness we had a 2-1 lead from the 1st Leg has we got the all important away to send us into the Semi Final against Real Madrid. Lyon hammered Shakhter over both Legs to earn their place in the Semi Final against Barcelona.
19.4.15 FA Cup Semi Final
The Treble is still on, 2nd time [...]
